How I Use Facebook

Since year 2010 came, or I suppose mid-2009, Facebook dominated the race of social-networking. It was September 2008 when I signed up for Facebook since I have friends who already have their own accounts. As soon as I started using it, I merely got bored because of its very plain and clean interface, featuring blue and white colors all-over, the task to post my status on my wall and that’s it. I asked myself “now what?” After my first 20 minutes of using Facebook, I immediately logged out since I only have two friends with nothing chat with. Maybe I just didn’t look for more in Facebook like its applications and the like.

Until this year, after a long time, I went back to Facebook since news stated that it’ll be the trend of the year replacing Friendster and that’s what I did. I left Friendster last April and began perking up my account.

What’s great about Facebook I think is its simplicity yet it has many features (which I haven’t seen from the time when my I first use). Everyday or every 2 days, I update my account through playing its different games. When I open my account, here are the things I do for the next hours:

1.)  KEEP IN MIND THE THREE ICONS BESIDE THE LOGO

First thing I do is check the 3 icons above: friend requests, messages and notifications. If there’s any, I’ll confirm, reply and check them out.

2.) GAMES AND APPS

Then, it’s time to play. Usually I play simulation games such as Treasure Isle, Farmville, Nightclub City and Restaurant City. Other games are tricky and testing like Jumping Dog, Music, Global & Word Challenge, Who Has the Biggest Brain, Bowling Buddies, Alien Attack and Icy Tower.

Aside from a whole variety of games, Facebook users are given chances to create their own quizzes and I spend a little time answering quizzes. There are funny and somehow gibberish but full of fun especially when I found out the result. The Last quiz I took was “Makakapasa Ka ba sa Board Exam” = 2nd place ka :)

Editing is fun and I share them in Facebook, usually bringing in comments.

3.) PHOTOS AND TAG ‘EM

If I get used in playing games, I usually upload photos from my drive and splurge time tagging. Most of the times, I edit pictures of mine and from other sites and type quotations on them and upload them, usually attracting people to comment and like them.

4.) POSTING

To draw more attention, I post quotes, jokes, inspirational song lyrics and satirical posts/ photos on my wall. Sometimes, the comment box becomes a chat box for those who comment.

5.) CHAT AND LOG OUT

If there’s nothing to do, I chat with my online friends. When the talk’s over, I log out and finish off my Facebook use.

For all those actions, I spend 2 to 3 hours, depending on my mood and thrill. How about you? How do you use your Facebook?  :)

Mukhang Libro

Facebook: isang social networking site na dating hindi kilala ngunit ngayong taon ng 2008-2009 ay biglang sumikat nang husto sa halos lahat ng tao sa buong mundo. Masasabing ito’y naging mas successful having 90,000,000+ members kung saan ay nalagpasan nito ang number of members ng dating kinagiliwan ng karamihan: Friendster.

Bakit nga kaya sumikat ng gayon ang Facebook? Nang aking makausap ang mga kaibigan ko ay dahil daw sa simplicity nito at ang mga addictive games doon. Noong nagsign-up ako sa FB nung September 2008 ay wala pa gaanong mga applications… (o baka hindi lang talaga ako marunong gumamit pa noon xD). Ngunit ngayon, sa sobrang dami ng applications at iba pang features, mas naging “hooked” daw ang mga tao sa FB. Ang aking first impression sa aking pagsali rito ay medyo boring pa dahil kaunti palang ang friends ko at walang kabuhay-buhay dahil “writing posts on walls” lang nagagawa nito, di tulad ng friendster, maaaring lagyan ng design ang profile at may iba’t iba pang mga pakulo tulad ng HTML-enabled comments.

For the first 4 months ay hindi ko naayos at nagamit ang aking FB account dahil maka-FS pa ako dati. Nang ang mga kaibigan ko ay “nagsilipat”, nahikayat din akong “lumipat”. March 2009 up to now, ako’y “hooked” na rin sa FB hindi dahil sa “wall-posting”, kundi dahil sa mga games at applications na matatagpuan doon. Ang karamihan sa klase ay may nagbibitaw ng mga salitang “Ang Facebook ay nakasisira ng pag-aaral.” Medyo totoo ito dahil sa halip na magresearch ay napapapunta kami sa FB ng wala sa oras at kapag inumpisahan na sa isang laro, wala na, wala nang na-research. xD (Pero depende naman kung masinop ang taong gumagamit nito…tulad ko..?)

Mga dahilan kung bakit naaadik ang mga tao sa FB:

1.) Quizzes
- Well totoong totoo ito. Andaming quiz na maaaring sagutin, kahit ang mga balderdash na mga quiz ay sinasagot ng karamihan just for fun, entertainment, pampalipas-oras at iba. May mga intellectual quizzes (e.g. optical illusions), “fan” quizzes (e.g. “How addicted are you in (TV show/ movie), quizzes na tungkol sa pag-uugali at marami pang iba. Ang mga sikat ay ang “Are you going to heaven or hell?”, “What is the quote quotable to you?”, “What are the initials of the person you’re going to get married to?”, “Ano ka sa classroom?”, “Anong klaseng utot ka?”, “Tunay ka bang CCCian?”, “Paano ka mamamatay?”, “Sinong horror movie killer ka?” etc.

2.) Games / Apps
- Walang kamatayang mga addictive na games kung saan ang mga hindi marunong mag-budget ng time ay mahuhulog sa patibong ng addiction. Restaurant City, Typing Maniac, Pet Society, FFS (Friends for Sale), Waka-Waka, Biotronic, Word Challenge, Geo Challenge etc. – talagang mahuhook ka sapagkat may gusto kang marating: ang maging #1 sa mga friends mo.

- Bakit nakakabaliw ang mga ito? Where else can you find kung saan may price ang kaibigan mo at bibilhin mo at aagawin lang sa’yo tapos kukunin mo ulit? Kawawa naman o kaya’y ang haba ng hair nung friend mo na pinag-aagawan xD. At sosyal pa dahil DOLLARS ang currency. May global crisis na nga, bibili ka pa ng $1B na value na friend mo – dapat magtipid. Tapos, magtatype ka ng mga salita sa loob ng maruming library at parang raketa kung makabagsak kaya kailangan magmadali. Pero may chance naman tayo na maging “businessmen” dahil sa RC, may instant resto ka na agad with $2,000. San ka pa?

Mga bukambibig ngayon:
1.) Bilhin niyo ako sa FFS! - Magkano ka? - $10 billion - magkano ang iyong dangal?
2.) Trade tayo, kailangan ko ng chicken!
3.) Add mo ako sa wishlist mo.
4.) Bigyan mo ako ng gift oh…pleazz?
5.) Add mo ako sa FB

3.) Mini-chat

-Kapag walang account sa Yahoo! Messenger, dito nalang. 2-in-1 dahil nakikipagchat ka na + may wall-writing pa.

Wala na akong maisip pang mga factors na dahilan ng addiction. Kapag mayroon kang naisip o may kulang, feel free to comment. Basta nandyan lang ang FB tag ko rito sa blog ko, click it and add me – wala naman masama, kaya ngang tinawag na “social-networking site” dahil makikipagsocialize tayo. :D
